Mike McDonald

When I opened my Boozecan in 1975  Mike and Danny Marx and Jim Jones spent many a night listening to my Jukebox, Mike was a student at Centennial College when I was on the staff in 1968.

In 2018 Mike spent a few days with me on his trip to Cape Breton.

Veteran guitarist/singer Mike McDonald has been delighting audiences for over four decades.

A consummate performer, Mike has shared stages around the world with an “endless” list of musical icons from B.B. King, Three Dog Night, James Cotton, and Steppenwolf to spending a week in Kandahar playing for the troops - one of his proudest moments.

In addition to his music prowess, Mike is also a very talented audio engineer/producer, who ran Toronto's venerable Grossman's Tavern Sunday Night Jam for 13 years. He used his music smarts to mentor hundreds of musicians at Toronto's legendary “Home of the Blues” including Canadian mega talents like Jeff Healey, Allanah Myles, Michael Pickett and Tony Springer. Mike also produced albums “Grossman's Live 1” and “Grossman's Live 2” featuring Jeff Healey and Pat Rush (Johnny Winters, Muddy Waters, Dr John)

This musician's musician is also very adept at paying homage to the playlists of other bands and has been playing the role of John Fogerty in CCR Tribute Band, “Bayou Boys” for years.

In 2012, Mike added Keith Richards to his guitar slinger's repertoire in Rolling Stones songbook band The Beggar's Banquet.

On stage Mike McDonald IS Keith Richards from the bandana, and colorful “Keef” garb, to cocky rock royalty attitude, and his signature Red Tele and White Fender Strat which continues to create some of the finest Hot Licks of all time.

I remember your bar very well, and all the celebrities that popped by for a visit, including the rolling stones. And as I recall you treated everyone equally a celeb could be shown the door for inappropriate behavior as quickly as the average Joe. It was a fun bar and I miss it.

Willie P Bennett
I was friends with Willy in his really wild days.
I always admired his talent and his energy.
But I had to bar him from my after-hours club.
Willie never held it against me.
